Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!
As you say last but not the least

Test its capacity :
Like learn the name of tool and get use all the menu as you first show it,

use raw file and make as much error as it can be possible

Behave like you already the professional of the software you trying to learn

read it Wikipedia if available

I agree all your tips. I learn faster by reading and trying than attending a course. I learned many softwares and worked so fast for my government job, making consultants dislike me. :(

Heya Mike! Coming from an IT background myself, I can relate to this article on learning software and making it a super productive tool.

To add on to this post in regards to learning process, all of us have the ability to learn multiple software simultaneously as long as we understand the purpose and usage (and how to utilize it for our needs). That's the approach I took to learn programming languages and development software (selecting only the one that I'm most comfortable with) in shorter period of time. :)

Mike

Just wanted to thank you for the idea about running in full screen. I'd not thought about it before but it's not only relevant for learning new software.

I've just switched to full screen and it removes all the other distractions on my desktop. I'm usually inefficiently multi-tasking (which means in reality 'no-tasking').

Now I just need to work out how to get my tabs back or I'm going to be stuck on your site forever. Not that, that would be bad .. oh ...I'll get out before the hole gets any deeper.
