Awesome idea to copy your boss if your really feel responsible as your boss it means you will be boss soon. But make sure you are doing copy only positive think of your Boss.

Hi Mike,

When I first started in (one of!) my current role(s), I used to do some of the work the boss did, we are a small company so it was handy when she was away and a good learning curve for me.
Anyway when she left I got the job, and now my assistant also helps me with my work. I have no doubt that when I move on he will get the position (well, if he wants it!)

As well as providing valuable experience, I think it helps develop a great sense of teamwork and support.
