6 Random Things About Me…
Personal December 16th, 2008Well, I’ve been reading some of the results from the latest craze in the blogging world where people are getting tagged to write 6 things about themselves and then pass on the tag to other bloggers to do the same. It’s been quite enjoyable to learn a little more about the faces and lives of those I read so much from so was about to do the same when I got tagged by Ross at www.willitchangeyou.com . So first, here are my 6 random things about me.

wow, storm chasing… I’ve always been fascinated not by the chasing, but by the people who do this! I have to say I’m a little disappointed by your 6th fact however!!! 😉
Thanks for letting us know a bit more about yourself…
December 16th, 2008 at 4:07 AM
Very cool Mike!
Being a biker myself (the two-wheeled variety!) – I’m always interested to learn more about this. So, I do have a question for you. How hard is it to learn to ride the unicycle? And, is balance an issue at all?
Me…I’ve had coffee today already…and will have more later…my wife never will (hey, that’s more for me!)
Great getting to know you a bit better Mike!

High five for non coffee drinkers! 😉
December 16th, 2008 at 8:06 AM
Ross, after reading about your love of coffee I knew I had to include that one being so different. Just remember, I’m saving so much great coffee for you!
Lance, unicycling is actually fairly hard to learn on your own but with someone who knows how is quite easy. I have taught many people how to ride and it can take as little as an hour. The biggest things for people to get over is to keep your head up (don’t ever look straight down as you will naturally) and go faster than you think you need to. It’s speed that lets you steer and recover your balance ON TOP of the unicycle.
Storm chasing wasn’t ever any really dangerous ones but I found many self standing under many of intense thunderstorms. I was on an ATC one time and a lightning strike hit so close to me (I don’t think it hit me) I was actually knocked out and came to just a second or two later laying on the ground. Those times where you can feel the static electricity lifting the clothes out from your body in every direction are quite a thrill (and rather scary actually). Fun times…
Deepikaur, its funny how this coffee topic always seems to spark the lovers and avoiders of the stuff isn’t it?
Thanks for the questions and comments everyone!

Wow Mike, you met your wife since you were 14 years old?
Coffee absolutely is not good for heart and can stimulate gastritis, but sometimes you have a coffee is all right, good for preventing intestine cancer.
And Mike, thank you very much for your kind words and the tag. I really appreciate that.

Arswino, Yes, high school sweet hearts and beyond! Coffee is one of those things that is part of more studies about health than anything it seems. They are always swayed by the industry funds behind them though it seems. Just the typical biases I guess for any survey at work there. The reason I never started with coffee, is because I tried it as a child twice and threw up immediately both times it tastes so bad. I’ve never cared since to try it again (conditioned myself to not like it really) and I also know that oxygen is depleted in the brain from caffeine. I highly value good brain health and oxygen depletion is not a healthy thing no matter what neuro-scientist or survey you look at. Brain health is one of those areas many people never seem to learn much about, they think more about the physical and visible body.
Anyway, that perhaps is another set of topics or articles to write… Thanks for the comments!

Mike,
The other five facts are amazing but no coffee!! It’s hard to imagine a day in my life without a cup of coffee (and a pint of beer!) ah, I’m highly toxic.
Thank you so much for the tag Mike! It means a lot. I have an extremely busy week thus, having no post in my blog. Six random things sound like a good start.

Hi
A 3D animation and graphics company – I’ve had a look at the website. Great stuff.
Nice to know a little more about you.

I am completely amazed with your unicycle passion. I had no idea that mountain unicycling even existed. I had to check out the website to see a few pictures. Now I’m a believer, but still baffled by how you do it. You’re quite an adventurist.
December 17th, 2008 at 10:20 PM
Thanks for the comments Viriya, Juliet and Bryan. The blog seems to be taking over some of the time I otherwise have for graphics and of course offroad unicycling but through the winter here in Canada. I don’t get out for rides as often.
There is a ton of snow here right now so I can’t even ride it to work, which I generally like to do in the winter. Hopefully a chinook will melt things soon and I can get back out on one wheel!

Hi Mike,
Honestly, I’m pleasantly surprised you put me up on your list!. To me, the most interesting fact is you are an excellent writer with very very clear style. Thanks for tagging me. I’m a rather disorderly guy though, and wonder if I can promise to continue the game: but I’ll try to do it. I arrived to read some refreshing stuff and realized I’ve been tagged! Enjoyed.
December 18th, 2008 at 9:34 AM
Mike,
returned just to clarify that I’m a bit unfamiliar with the link handling stuff-reason for saying if I would continue the game..so, I might invest time learning it.
December 18th, 2008 at 5:16 PM
WOW !
I knew there was something about your writing skills that had me second guessing what your career was.
My guy is a graphic designer, into marketing, media and the list goes on.
The similarity of your writing technique, made me wonder.
Now I know.
Hats off to you and the Mrs ! Ten years Terrific !!!
December 20th, 2008 at 3:52 AM
hi .. you should drink a cup of coffee with me hahaha, I always spend 6 cups of coffee every day
December 20th, 2008 at 2:58 PM
Thanks Pushhyarag2000 for the thoughts and I’m glad I’ve sparked you to play along and do some tagging yourself. The links in a community of bloggers/commenters/friends are what help to keep us connected so make the most of it!
Bunny, thanks so much for your comments. So many people who get to know me wonder how I got into engineering. The creative side of engineering is what I love and luckily have the adventure and artist side to spill out with creativity as well. I guess I can add writing to that now as well. I seem to be shifting much more away from the technical things most people think of engineers. Anyway, interesting to learn of any similarities with your man.
Addict, I don’t think there are many things that could convince me to have a cup of coffee. I’ve had plenty of cups of other liquid though over a coffee with people, so I’d welcome that, fur sure. It sounds like you are making up for any coffee I don’t drink anyway! 🙂

LOL, how funny is this?? Being tagged by somebody and you have to do what the rules in this game imply!! I’m still new to the blogging world and I wasn’t aware of such kind of games till
I was tagged by you, Mike King.
Six Things I’m Fond of and going to write them here (just to share mine):
1. Linux Ubuntu (Server Edition): This distro is just fantastic. Linux is the best!
2. Fitness Lifestyle: well, this might be the area I’m passionate the most, bodybuilding, weight training, nutrition, motivation, helping others getting fit, selling this lifestyle.
3. Photography: Although, I got a little frustrated after getting all the pictures stolen!!
4. Coffee and Tea: This is my addiction! Do me a blood diagnosis you will find caffeine instead of blood.
5. Self-Improvement: Recently, started seriously reading about Self-Improvement: Mind, Relationships, Friendships …etc.
6. Discussions: discussing with others the self-improvement topics, trying to help others from this perspective, keep improving my communication skills to further level and that’s through pursuing this kind of activity.

Hi Mike,
These facts are great! I don’t think I would’ve believed there was such a thing as Extreme Mountain Unicycling if you hadn’t of posted those pics.
December 21st, 2008 at 2:36 PM
Thanks Husain and Peter for your additions. Peter, I think I hear that almost everytime it comes up in conversations. Usually other people I am with tell others first as it certainly amazes them more than me, after doing it for so many years. It’s a great sport and a lot of fun if you have enough motivation to learn it and master it.
December 31st, 2008 at 2:15 AM
I’ve got interested in the sport named mountain unicycling.Never heard of it before.IS it really fantastic as you describe it.
December 31st, 2008 at 7:36 AM
Dicki, yes it is a wonderful sport! You need a high level of self motivation though to both learn it and to get yourself out riding often. If you enjoy the outdoors and want to build up a great amount of core body strength and balance, then mountain unicycling is the sport to choose. I absolutely love it! Do a few google searching for it, you will find many others saying the same thing and enjoying it as well!

I thought I am the only crazy person who never liked coffee. Mountain unicycling sounds so extreme to me. Who would have thought people would hope on that thing on a steep incline?
January 13th, 2009 at 7:02 AM
It’s always neat to learn something about a person. You sound like a pretty cool individual Mike.
Thanks for the info!
